How Many Cold Emails Can I Send a Day

Rajnish Das

How many cold emails can I send a day is probably the first question that pops up in every SDR’s mind. Here’s the answer 👇

You can send 50 cold emails per day per email address.

The more accurate answer would be as many as you want, depending on your ESP and how old the sender’s address is.

Let’s get into it in detail.

How Many Cold Emails Can I Send a Day

The recommended number is 50 cold emails (max) per day per email address.

This is when you’re sending bulk emails. If you’re sending less than 1000 cold emails per day, go to ESPs and Sendling Limits section.

Why only 50 emails?

Cold emailing is a tricky business and the key to success is scaling.

The average cold email response rate is 8.5%, which means for every 100 emails sent only 8 or 9 may get a reply. To sustain a business via cold emails, you must send around 1000 emails or more daily.

This is where you need to think about deliverability and domain reputation.

“Email deliverability is the ability for emails reaching the recipient's inbox.”

“Domain reputation is a score assigned by ESPs that indicates how reliable a domain is for sending emails.”

Sending mass emails from a single email address affects deliverability rates and domain reputation because your activity seems unnatural to the ESPs of your recipients.

This results in

❌ High spam & bounce rates

❌ Zero clicks

❌ Low open & reply rates

❌ Blacklisted by email servers

This is why it’s recommended to buy secondary domains and divide your email load.

How to Divide Email Volume with Secondary Domains

Secondary domains are additional or related domain names acquired by a business/individual to complement their primary domain.

They help you divide your email sending volume, so your primary domain doesn’t get overused or end up getting flagged or blacklisted.

It’s advised to avoid using primary domain to send bulk cold emails.

Here’s how to divide your email volume using secondary domains:

Create 3 sender’s address per secondary domain to send 50 emails per sender’s address.

Formula to calculate total secondary domains and email address
  • If you're sending 500 emails: You will need 4 secondary domains and a total of 10 email addresses.
  • If you're sending 1,000 emails: You will need 7 secondary domains with 21 email addresses.
  • If you're sending 2,000 emails: You will need 14 secondary domains and a total of 42 email addresses.
  • If you're sending 5,000 emails: You will need 42 secondary domains and 126 email addresses.
  • If you're sending 10,000 emails: You will need 83 secondary domains and 249 email addresses.

And so on.

ESPs & Sending Limits

If you’re sending less than 1000 emails per day, your existing email addresses would. You can divide the email volume into 3 to 4 sender’s addresses, depending on their age and ESP.
